So here is the long awaited post I promised you to come at the end of September which clearly didn't happen... I've been busy working on a project Mothers, Daughters.
The story begins about six months ago when Daniel and I were travelling through Asia. Six days into our attempt of the Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal, we took a small side trip to acclimatize to the altitude. On the road from Dingboche to Chukhung, in the solitude of nature the mind tends to wander where it will.
On the seemingly endless days gone by, my thoughts consisted of what we were going to eat for dinner (potatoes and daal bhat can leave one a little wanting), a Marc by Marc Jacob’s handbag, and the intrinsic value of my excel spreadsheet building skills during a zombie apocalypse.
On the road towards the Imja Tse, this day was different. This day, my thoughts lingered on my mother’s upcoming milestone birthday, a woman I met in Jaisalmer, India who owned a small shop selling textiles made by local women, and the Nepalese village women collecting yak dung for evening fires and harvesting potatoes for the winter months...
In the shadow of the mountains surrounding the landscape, there was one to which I was drawn. Its snow peaked caps and gentle ridges were a sight to behold. The calm majestic Ama Dablam kept a watchful eye as we continued our ascent. Sherpa Lakpa explained, Ama Dablam — “Mothers and Daughters.” Ama Dablam, in its unassuming beauty and quiet strength, represented all the women, young and old, that drifted through my thoughts that day.
Inspired, I carried an idea up to base camp, and across the globe. We returned home, settled back into the rhythm of our lives. The days passed by until I came across Proverbs 31. It was God telling me “This is who I created you to be”, a woman who seeks Him, who loves her family, who is compassionate, who is an artisan, and who is an entrepreneur. That is who I want to be.
This idea is dedicated to Ama Dablam: Mothers, Daughters.
(note, I'll be "closing" the blog here and blogging from Mothers, Daughters hereinafter. Hope to see you there!)

weekend plans
I'm so happy it's the weekend!! It's been a long week and I'm exhausted and ready for some R&R. What are your plans for the long weekend? It looks as though I may have to get some work done, but I hope to squeeze in some bike riding and a picnic or two. Have fun, my dear friends!
Happy (belated) Canada's Day!
hello. I'm taking a little break from the travel posts to update you what's been going on since we've been back... is it too late to blog about the long weekend? I mean, it is now the weekend after... but last weekend was just so marvelous, I'll do it anyway. the Canada's day weekend was a rare one where we had absolutely no plans and did things on the whim. We were productive and accomplished a lot at a leisurely and relaxing pace.
We spent Friday working on some house projects; Daniel put up some shelves and purged the condo of useless items while I organized my craft supplies. I wrote letters/cards and stamped them send. I even did some cooking. For dinner we had a special Canada’s Day meal, the epitomy of a summer’s day’s meal: bbq fish and meat, lots of fresh tomatoes, herbs and fruit. Then some friends came by to watch the fireworks from Mel Lastman Square and plan many rounds of Dominion. We did more on that Friday than what we would do in an entire weekend.Saturday we slept in, hung out at with my sister at the Distillery District, picked strawberries, ate dinner with my family, and even squeezed in some sewing. Sunday we spent the afternoon making jam and beouf bourguignon and spaghetti, enough food to last us the week. Then I had one Caesars too many (okay, it was one heavy on the vodka) and fell asleep at before the sunset.
Now it's Friday again! We're headed to a bbq at a friends and then to Scott's Barn; it's the lavender festival this weekend and I'm excited to bring back some flowers to make some scented satchels. What are you up to this weekend?
hello home
we were gone for eight weeks, but without missing a beat, we fell back into our regular routine of normal life, (albeit sleeping and waking up at really early hours). it's almost like we never went away...
but we did go away. we have a million pictures and little trinkets as evidence. even without those, we have these wonderful memories, vivid and funny and sweet; we could only have such memories because we actually went abroad, right? "oh, remember when I nearly had a heart attack during the everest trek?" "no. I do not remember. because you did not nearly have a heart attack. but I do remember when you decided to let me drown instead of coming to save me on the kayak." "oh ya. I learned to kayak... kayaking is hard." and so we reminisce together, when we're up at five in the morning and when we're drifting off to sleep before the sun even sets.
homecoming was bittersweet. it was difficult to leave the nomadic life and the adventures that come with it (oh, we're already daydreaming about our next holiday), but it was so incredibly nice to come home, to see friends and spend time with family, to sleep on a oh-so comfortable bed, to eat a home-cooked meal, to clothes that aren't dry fit, to wear skirts and heels.
we come back a little bit more cultured, definitely more tanned, and feeling refreshed and inspired and eager for the next stage in life, whatever that may be.
we will be continuing to blog and post pictures of our time abroad. up next, doing the everest base camp trek in nepal!

a-non-february-day-in-february
I hate the month of february—winter, at this point, has transpired way too long— so every year we celebrate a-non-february-day-in february. the actual day of non-feb-day-in-feb is kinda arbitrary; it just happens whenever I need a pick-me-up and want to be showered in gifts or something. our a-non-feb-day-in-feb happened to fall on valentines day this year and so we did it with a pink theme: wore pink, ate pink-ish/red-ish foods, made pink-coloured crafts. t'was a good day- I fell asleep at 8PM and slept through the night.
heart
best valentine's day gift ever. thanks anthropologie. I love you. I know I will love bhldn too.
happy valentine's day everyone- you are loved
happy valentine's day everyone- you are loved

I am in a funk and feeling a little overwhelmed— the winter bluesssssss… do you ever feel that way, dear friends?
I have developed a love/hate relationship with work. while I feel like I am entering a good place career wise, it does stress me so… I haven’t had a breakdown since october (as if this is something to be proud of), but was on the verge of one last week. in the office, we joke about mental health rehabilitation and compare stress ailments like canker sores, cold sores and twitchy eyes.
it’s so difficult for me to find time to create. I am so envious of kelly and her crafters’ getaway weekend. how I would love for even just a day to do nothing but sit in my “studio” and make things.
but I do find time for tv. in my defense, it’s much easier to work and watch tv than to work and craft in the evenings. my new favourite show is community, and I can’t wait for murdoch mysteries to come back. murdoch mysteries is set in toronto during the late 1800s. totally awesome.
have you watched young victoria. daniel and I watched a few months ago. I think I made three comments during the movie and didn’t fall asleep. daniel gauges how much I like a movie by my capacity stay quiet and awake. guess how young victoria fares in my books.
I’m currently reading tears of pearl. judging from the sypnosis on the back cover, it should be a great novel: feminism, murder, victorian times, travel and the protagonist shares a first name with yours truly.
last week daniel and I had dinner at etenoca sociale. I highly recommend it. “nonna’s special” (the tasting menu) is great value and the braised oxtail is delicious!. some people on yelp complained about the portion sizes, but we found portion sizes to be very generous; we left with that “I’m too full, I feel sick” feeling and a doggy bag.
I’ve been obsessed with butacini all'amatriciana since entenoca sociale. it’s my current go-to dish. I make it with pancetta rather than the traditional guciancole. where can I get guciancole?
my current go-to wine is norman hardies county pinot noir (anyone going to PEC and can pick me up a few bottles?). daniel choice of wine is reisling.
I want a puppy. I am trying to convince daniel to get me one for my birthday in june. see some puppy love here.
anyone going skking soon? this tilt-shift video of whistler makes me reminiscent of my trip to BC just a mere month ago.
I can't stop watching this video by kinga burza for kate spade. love the muted colours, but everything about it puts a smile to my face.
lastly, aren't these silk scarves, a reflection of the sky, just amazingly beautiful? I want one almost as badly as I want a puppy.
so I'm heading home and starting my weekend. what are you plans for the next couple of days? we'll be busy busy. in additional to work (yes, I have to work this weekend ): ), we have chinese new year and super bowl parties to attend. plus, my sister is coming over tonight and I intend on taking her to the new izakaya down the street- they serve this delicious pork belly. yum!
have a great weekend, dear friends!

happy new year!
Hello! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a lovely holiday, and starting an exciting new year.
daniel and I spent a really fun Christmas with family. we stayed over at my parents for a couple nights and hung out with my siblings. on christmas eve, my mum hosted christmas dinner for extended family—only the kids were in charge of cooking the meal. there was mismatch of food: indian, french, italian, chinese, making it yet another traditional christmas dinner (:
after a night of board games, christmas carol karaoke (thanks to youtube), and glutonning, my (immediate) family had the traditional christmas gift exchange. it’s something the family looks forward to every year because it’s just so darn fun, every bit of it: shopping for gifts, giving gifts, receiving gifts etc. I intend on carrying this tradition down when I have kiddies.
then daniel and I spent some time in vancouver with friends. such a beautiful city, but more about that in later posts.
anyway, the new year is here! I am always excited for a new year. daniel and I have a lot we wish to accomplish this year- read all about our adventures here!

birthday traditions
it's a tradition of my family to celebrate birthdays at a restaurant of the birthday person's choice. daniel decided to have his celebration at earth indian of restaurant makeover fame.
there was 2 appetizer platters, 6 curries, 2 bowls of rice, and 10 naans shared among 8 people (my family + cousins). the food was devoured in about 15 minutes.
the problem I find with communal sharing of food like such is that people tend to eat as much as possible, as quickly as they can, in order to try everything before it disappears.
then I get indigestion.
my cousin laura got itis and fell asleep as soon as she got home (at 9pm).
daniel, on the other hand, found his spinach in naan (or was it the saag paneer) and gained superhuman energy and stayed up really really late.
my family loves the birthday dinners. we never go anywhere fancy, but it's so much fun trying to manipulate others into choosing a restaurant of his or her choice and trying new restaurants. there will be a birthday drought for the next few months, but come april, we all begin the cycle again!
on my mind

sometimes I daydream about quitting my day job and owning a little store filled with beautiful little things from all around the world. doesn't anthropologie buyer keith johnson have the best job ever?
the rare moments in between work and sleep, I try to create beautiful little things. but the moments have been so rare, it leave me frustrated and sad. every project is a still a work in progress.
my dear husband is ever so sweet. he does the laundry and draws me baths and makes dinner and gives me back rubs and brings me snacks and cups of water and encourages me to make things whenever I can. he's so good. I love him.
my mum is a sweetheart, as well. I called her up at 4pm to ask "can you make dinner for daniel and me tonight? I won't get off till 8 so we won't be eating dinner with you. I'm basically coming to mooch free food." when we arrived at her place at a bit past 8, there was dinner all packed up for us. she also have chinese seafood soup for me. my favourite.
I need a haircut. but I haven't had the time to get one. there's an episode of gilmore girls where lorelai is chided by emily (gilmore) about getting haircut. that episode runs through my head every time I need to brush the tangles out.
I've been checking off quite a few things off the 101 in 1001 list lately. there's that overnight girls-only trip with my sister, the quaint bnb in stratford, the winery tour. there's the ongoing things of having weekly (sometimes even more!) dinners with my family and the jewelry course at GBC. checking things off reminds me that life is fun. I am not all work and no play.
this weekend we plan on going to canada's wonderland. it's been at least three years since we were there. daniel likes to tell a story oh how I "cried" on the bat, but he exagerrates; I only teared. And it was because of the wind in my face.
I dreamt I was pregnant last night. in my dream my mum and yee mahs said "you shouldn't go to wonderland on sunday. you shouldn't go on rollercoasters when you're with child". that made me sad. I really want to go on the rollercoasters.
I made up a version of cops and robbers. spin is that it's played within a cornmaze. oh, and helium-filled balloons and waterguns are involved. I still need to iron out a few kinks, but anyone interestested in a game? seriously? we can go next week and then go eat apple pie.
summer days driftin' away
hello! I am back from a lovely vacation in rather tropical weather and upon my return, was met by cold, wind and gray. oh, it’s delicious and I can’t be any happier! I love autumn and while it’s not officially fall yet, the labour day weekend always marks the end of summer and the beginning of autumn for me. as soon as the day after labour day rolls around, the pace of life changes so drastically, we’re not in kansas anymore. the streets are filled with kiddies and students; the subway jammed with who-knows-who; work is demanding loooooooong hours; anthropologie is showcasing the most beautiful clothes... I was restraining myself from visits to anthro, and even from perusing through the august and September catalogs, prior to Barcelona (in order to fund Barcelona), but I gave in today, and my, how those online pages tease me. there are just about a million things I wished I had a million dollars to purchase.
jeweled tones, wool, scarves and boots make me weak at the knees!
work has been a tad bit stressful in the last few weeks, including the one when I was on vacation (I was compelled to check and respond to email every night; isn’t that sad?) which means there has little time for crafting. but fall brings exciting new art and craft adventures! I am enrolled in the jewelry course at george brown college (inspired my friend Tracy!) and wins and I will be hosting a little event will involve lots of handmade goodies. can't wait till fall is in full throttle... and to fill my belly with stews, soon tofu, chilli and soups!

roll out those lazy hazy crazy days of summer...
blogging as been slow as of late because of those lazy hazy crazy days of summer. daniel and I have been busy getting drunk on ceasars, sitting out on patios, eating lots of sweet corn (thanks to st. jacob's market), visiting friends (including those in ottawa), barbequing (at home via the awesome bbq grill my parents got us, at my parents, at friends, at other family... really wherever and whenever we can), hanging out with my family, entertaining friends at home, and working long hours.
today is one of those loooooooong work days. it's noon and all I've accomplished is compiling an extensive ever-growing to-do list which would take me about five business days to accomplish. however, I only have till the end of tomorrow... because I'll be on vacation next week!! yipeeeeeee. I love vacation.

pretty things
“you are considered superficial and silly if you are interested in fashion. But I think you can be substantial and still be interested in frivolity”
(vintage birdcage from accessoryaddiction, jonathan adler's daschhund bookends for barnes and nobles, felted acorns from Fairyfolk, japanese tape from PrettyTape)
I used all birthday money to purchase the most frivolous little things… none of which are practical, but they do make me happy.

dear diary...
while rummaging through boxes of books still in storage, I found an old journal, maintained during the period between my last days of highschool and starting university. I was an 18 year old girl desiring to find love and have a magical first kiss, planning on going to the opera to be “cultured and worldly”, and lamenting about lack of funds to buy all the clothes I want. on my 18th birthday, I listed all my favourite things:
food: chicken wings, ice cream, shrimp
tv show: gilmore girls
movie: moulin rouge and sound of music
musician: our lady peace
my 18year old self is forever preserved on paper, immortal and eternal. that is the beauty of journaling.
in comparison, my current self isn’t too different. found love and had that magical first kiss, but more or less the same girl: still working on the being “cultured and wordly”; want/need more clothes and shoes. still love chicken wings, ice cream and shrimp.
but I feel old... and wiser (ha!). I turned twenty-six three weeks ago. I didn’t like turning twenty-six, but I do love birthdays, especially mine. in the next few posts, I’ll share with you how I celebrated.

letters
dear work,
I’ve spend almost 60 hours with you this week. I’m glad to see you disappear for a couple of days.
dear husband-whose-in-arkansas,
I miss you. when can you come home?
dear weekend,
can you try to keep the rain away?
dear me,
you’ve neglected to spend time with Housework this week. even if the Weekend doesn't bring rain, I advise you stay in some to clean up before your husband comes home.
dear reader,
what are you doing with your weekend? I hope you have a marvelous time.
the secret of the old site
when I was younger, my brother, cousin alex, and I formed a clue club. we played the parker brother boardgame a lot and read the clue mysteries books and rode 'round the neighbourhood on our bikes, solving made-up mysteries. even earlier in my childhood, I use to make pencil rubbings ontop of sewer caps, pretending the writing on the caps contained a code to decipher. I've always had a penchant for mysteries.
the closest I've gotten involved in a real-life mystery was when money was taken from our bank account from daniel's debit card a couple weeks ago. it was the day after we had shwarmas for lunch and I was sure it was that sketchy looking guy who served us. I had planned on eating dinner there to sacrifice my debit card and camp outside the shwarma place (with my yummy dinner, of course) to observe the sketchy looking guy. but even before I could begin sleuthing, the bank notified us that money was taken from italy. frankly, I found that disappointing; it's more difficult to tail an italian to expose his/her card-copying ring than it is to follow the shwarma guy.
but anyway, at work I'm working on phase I environmental assessments for this site in toronto. doing phase Is is quite similar to detective work. instead of finding whodunit and whether it was colonel mustard in the library with the candlestick, phase Is identify potential or existing environmental contamination liabilities. more like, is it company x on site x with an oil spillage? the actual work requires a lot of digging around old documents and records; I spent the day at the toronto reference library, looking up city directories and fire insurance plans dating pre-1900, trying to find where storage tanks were located on the site, confirming nature of work of previous tenants on the site etc. it's all really neat. plus, it makes me feel a bit like an erin brokovick/nancy drew hybrid.
solving environmental mysteries (and other work related things) is occupying most of my waking hours and keeping me from recapping the last leg of my italian vacation, but I do plan to finish it beforefriday sunday next tuesday.
in the meantime, I'll leave you a couple pictures of my latest project: it's for my macaron-eating, pastel-coloured, disgustingly girlie, all girls birthday party I'm throwing myself this coming weekend!

hallo. I’m home again, and I have so much to share!!
I am in a bit of a trance as I try to get back into the rhythm regular life. I am physically here, but my mind is still off in Italy. I think and talk little of anything, but my trip. I mentally and verbally recount the things I experienced. I flip through my photos, over and over again. I constantly turn to daniel and tell him how much I miss rolf, one of the other art students, and tufo, the dog belonging to julian the art teacher, and the sounds of birds’ song everywhere I go. yesterday I dreamed I was in a tuscan town, walking up and down narrow cobblestoned streets and past old buildings of the earth tones of raw siena and yellow ochre. I woke up with a smile on my face.
but as much as I wish I was still there, daily life has been made so much sweeter having taken that trip. I am happier than ever to be alive.
I cannot believe how lucky I was to have been there, done that. I drift off to sleep, thanking God for my Italian art adventure. I wake up and mutter the same prayer of thankfulness. I am so thankful. the entire experience was an absolute dream.
I shall spend the next week or so sifting through pictures and recounting my trip here on my blog. I have tried very hard to capture activities, events and even emotions in my own personal journal, but I want to do it here as well, to accompany anecdotes with visuals. I do warn you, entries will probably be loooooong, detailing as much as I can remember. have run reading, or just enjoy the pictures!

I Am A Girl - The Girls With Glasses Theme Song from The Girls With Glasses on Vimeo.
as a girl with glasses, I find this so totally awesome. wish I had more frames. wish I had that vintage wardrobe.
zooey deschanel's hair is so perfect. the dancing is the cutest.
progress report
I don’t just go on dates with daniel.
really.
so it’s been the only thing blogged about lately, but I do do other things... like, sleep and eat... just kidding (kinda)
work has been stressful lately. there's been a lot of work and no work- it's a complicated matter, but it leaves me emotionally drained afterwards and I do little but watch tv. I've finished all seven seasons of star trek voyager.
but there are some moments when I tackle my list of projects. I’ve been experimenting with different fabrics to make floral pretties and trying to embellish an old cardigan with ribbon. I started the latter thinking it’s an easy project and I’d be done in days. but that was, like, thirty days ago, and there hasn’t been much progress since. no matter how much I work on it, it doesn’t fare much. it usually leaves me in the worst moods and takes me days to recover.
and of course, we’re still working on that darn second bedroom. decluttering it is taking forever! I do now know how we’ve accumulated so much stuff and there are still boxes of books and art supplies and dvds and clothes and wedding junk in the locker and my parent’s basement!
but we have made headway on the desk!! daniel “built” it and it’s pretty awesome. I’ll post more about it once we have the entire bedroom turned into a workroom. next step is shelving books and other random things (i.e. all the junk you see on the floor and desk).
projects will remain on a hiatus till we’re back from italy. then I swear, I’m doing nothing but finishing things on my to-do list.
really.
