globetrotting

daniel and I love travelling. this world is so big and we want to get to know it, even if it's a little at a time and a small part of it in the end. we love exploring new places, being exposed to different cultures and ways of life, viewing local art and architecture, finding must-have trinkets in markets and shops (and subsequently cluttering our condo with beautiful things from all over the world), learning a place’s history and it’s people’s traditions, trying new and interesting foods, gaining a sense of perspective and appreciation upon returning home…

last year we were blessed with many incredible opportunities to travel. together, we rang in new year at time squares among a million strangers in NYC, experienced art and history and la dolce vita in Italy, and ate our way out of 2010 in vancouver. daniel travelled south to akransas; whilst it was for work, he did enjoy some mama's finger-lickin’ deep-fried cookin’. I did some road trippin' for work and encountered catelonia culture in stylish and colourful barcelona with my sister. it was a great year of travels… but that was last year…

this year, we’re going abroad for two months.

travelling for an extended period of time has been a goal for us for years— even before we were married! the idea first originated during our engagement. while driving to lunch after church, daniel turns to me and says “why don’t we take some time off to travel when we’re married?”. well, we got married, and while the opportunity to take long trip took awhile to arise, we’ve been dreaming and planning and dreaming and planning till now.

work and finances will allow only 8 weeks to be our extended period away, nonetheless we feel extremely lucky to be able to be away for that long.

our adventures will begin in india, a country I’ve longed to visit since watching bollywood movies while eating curry with my indian friends in highschool. we plan to make it for holi, the hindu festival that inspired a birthday a couple years ago. then we head to nepal to overcome my literal everest when trekking to the mount everest base camp. if we survive, we’ll fly to beijing to reinact a scene from the disney version of mulan. the last couple weeks of our trip will be in thailand and cambodia to experience elephants, ancient buddhist and hindu temples, snorkeling in the gulf of thailand and eating crickets for snacks.
for the next couple of months this blog will serve as our online travel journal. you can expect to see photos and written recollections of each place visit from both daniel and my perspective. we’ll keep you posted on all our adventures.
