we're having an outdoor ceremony at Spadina House, a Victorian and Edwardian house built in the late 1800s. it’s extremely quaint and the grounds around the house are beautiful and filled with trees, gardens, and even a little vineyard.
this tree will be…
...transformed with ribbon, floral pomanders, fairy lights, lanterns… guests will wander ‘round the grounds, sipping on pink lemonade. the women will wear stylish hats and headpieces and the children will play games of croquet. there will be picnic sandwiches served from wicker baskets and they will be eaten on crocheted blankets on the lawn. everyone will have a lovely time except there really won’t be stylish hats and croquet and a picnic because of time and budget limits. nonetheless, a wedding at the Spadina house is a lovely picture, yes? but I am quite worried about a few things.
(1st row: spadina house via Points North's flickr, women in lovely hats at the Australian Jockey Club, wooden folding chairs; 2nd row: picnic dresses from martha stewart, croquet from fayeandgreer's Hamptons inspiration board, pink lemonade from martha stewart; 3rd row: retro picnic wedding from nibsblog, petal aisle way from the knot, ribboned tree)
1. what it if rains?!?!
2. how does one tread on grass… gracefully?!?!

what are some measures a bride needs to take for worst-case outdoor wedding scenarios?

oh my, it's absolutely gorgeous. re: outdoor, ask them what the tenting policy is - if you can check the weather a few days beforehand and put a tent up, i'd recommend at least having that as a backup plan. also, the grass is a real issue both for skinny heels and your gown getting stained. wear chunky heeled shoes for the ceremony! where is your reception? in an absolute worst case scenario can you move your ceremony into your reception area?
ohmygosh. i breathed a little sigh of relief about the no cricket part...i was really impressed though at first! the tent plan is feasible, but expensive to have on backup because if it doesnt rain you still pay the deposit, so try to find a cheap one. have you asked the location manager what THEIR rain plan is? Im sure they have had to use it!
i have the same predicament. you can see on my blog the place we are using - very similar actually, strange - and i have to walk on grass. im not doing a runner. i tried walking in heels as a practice run and i fell on my sweet *ç"* twice. so now i am looking for thicker heels but i dont want to wear chunky wedges.
so, if you see any great shoes, post them, and i will do likewise, since we are in the same boat!
1940s heels, Jessica? not too high, a bit chunky but funky and still feminine?
