day at the beach

I’ve known Winnie since third grade. We used to jump around like hyper monkeys on those blue-red mattresses instead of listening to our Sunday school teachers. We used to tease a distant cousin of mine, calling him a he-she; he stopped coming around to play. We used stand around our lockers, whispering about boys and giving them nicknames, one of which has now become her fiancé.

Now Wins and I like to sit at the magazine section of Chapters, skimming through wedding magazines and talking about weddings. Winnie is to wed her high school sweetheart next month. I have the honor of being one of her bridesmaids as well as having her be one of mine.

Saturday, us bridesmaids threw Wins a little fun-in-the-sun themed bridal shower- Wins has always had this thing for beaches.

(all pictures taken by Win's maid of honor and sister, Jenny!)

pictures from left to right:

  • Win’s looking fabulous in her bridal beach get-up, including a bikini bra made from plastic sea shells and ribbon.
  • A poster of Win’s “fiancé”, which was later used for a game of “Pin Winnie’s Head On Dave”
  • Lanterns from ikea and the famous Martha Stewart tissue pomanders were hung from the ceiling. My dear Daniel had helped me make the pom-pom balls. Now we have been enlisted by Wins to make pom-pom balls for her wedding.
  • Pink cards gocco’ed with the palm tree motif were mailed to each guest, asking them to offer some kind of housekeeping tip or recipe. Here is one filled out.
  • Each guest took home a glass of “lemonade” and palm tree coasters. (To answer your question, Elizabeth) The coasters were purchased from American Coaster; glasses and straws purchased at ikea; jelly beans at bulk barn and the green flower pom-poms were made by Daniel and I.
